Hope Springs features some good acting – Meryl Streep makes us understand how it might feel to be married to Tommy Lee Jones, and Tommy Lee Jones also makes us understand how it might feel to be married to Tommy Lee Jones.

Ultimately, the movie is marred by an adherence to standard Hollywood “family values” – the marriage is saved and will continue much as before.
