In 2001, I attended seminary for one semester. Yes, I really did. This was my introductory essay for Soteriology (the doctrine of salvation), assigned so the professor would get an idea of our background on the subject. My grade was “C”.

Keep on whining, Seinfeld. It’s actually funny how yet another out-of-touch multi-millionaire doesn’t like how the world is changing around him, without him. Political correctness is definitely not killing comedy, but if it finishes Seinfeld’s stale schtick, good riddance.
Lee Siegel’s most recent book is called Are You Serious? How to Be True and Get Real in the Age of Silly. I doubt any irony was intended when the New York Times published his essay Why I Defaulted on My Student Loans last Sunday. Those NOT asking “are you serious” can only be others who have or might want to default. Deeply silly, this guy.
I’m concerned that modern media, shaped as it is by the Internet, is destroying our ability to know or be known…Critics write quickly because their employers need clicks to sell ads. We don’t like the system (“the media”) but it’s the one we asked for (free, ad-supported.) “Going viral” is considered a good thing, although most viral content really is the electronic equivalent of the flu.
On Friday, Ireland voted to allow same-sex marriage. 62 percent in favor, with over 60 percent of eligible voters casting ballots. That’s huge, especially when you consider Ireland’s reputation for religious observance. (Maybe that’s what tipped the scales? Worth thinking about, America. As one woman said, “We’re pro-family, so of course we voted in favor of same-sex marriage.”) I shed a few tears of joy, despite my own attitude toward marriage.
I read the contract. Among other things, it says the theater will own all of my work product once the show is done. Lighting plot, cue sheet, notes, whatever. And if they decide to change the date or the location, I’m still on the hook. And I need to let them know my location at all times prior to the show. And come to meetings whenever and wherever they are called. And if they cancel the show for any reason, I’m out of luck. And contractually, I can’t tell anyone about any of it. Seriously.
Peter: Lord! Have you heard what’s happening on Earth? Some blogger from Moss Island said that Christians are responsible for gay kids killing themselves…
Los Angeles has announced that it will increase its minimum wage from $9 per hour to $15 per hour by 2020. I once had a fat boss who griped that it wasn’t right that the cleaning staff was eligible for the same health insurance he was. Three other bosses had me over to their homes, to fix their personal computers, which weren’t used for business at all (unless you count looking at porn.) They didn’t tip.
While [Christians] polish their halos and conduct their lives in ways their faith suggests God likes, young people are dying. They are committing suicide because they loathe themselves, because they have been convinced they have no place in society… YOUNG PEOPLE ARE COMMITTING SUICIDE BECAUSE OF CHRISTIANS. Christians who whine because [gay activist] Dan Savage calls them on it. Impolitely. Well, now my 15 year-old is calling them on it, too.
College is a scam. The presumed value of a degree has to be high in order for people to support colleges and keep them in business. Graduates who get jobs are incentivized not to hire non-degree holders, which would retroactively devalue their own investment. If basic college education becomes commoditized, effort will be made to market the “value” of a “better” education, and we’ll end up where we are now before too long. Free college education will not level the playing field…
